Nissan Prairie Joy (1997)
The Nissan Prairie Joy was unveiled at the 31st Tokyo Motor Show in 1995. It was the world’s first electric vehicle equipped with cylindrical-type lithium-ion battery power. It was limited to fleet sales, with around 30 units sold to various entities from 1997. It was also used as a support vehicle for six flawless years by the Japanese National North Pole Exploratory Team at their research station in Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, Norway, the world's most Northerly settlement. The Prairie Joy EV proved the feasibility and durability of the lithium-ion battery under extreme conditions.
